Spring into Beauty: Day Twenty – Exfoliation

I love exfoliating! Chemical exfoliation, mechanical exfoliation… Love it. It’s my favorite part of skin care.

So lets start with the basics. First of all, why would you exfoliate? First of all, exfoliating will slough off dead skin cells and smooth out your skin texture. Also, because those skin cells are now removed, the moisturizer will penetrate easier as there isn’t any dead skin to block it. It also helps give the skin a healthy glow.

Chemical/mechanical exfoliation; what are they? Now it might sounds straight up obv but I’m going to break it down because the word “chemical” throws a lot of people off. Mechanical kinda does too…. Anyways, chemical exfoliation is the use of enzymes – natural or not – to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This can be done with products such as Phytomer’s Peeling Vegetal or natural products such as lemon. Mechanical exfoliation is the use of a product that has beads or sand or an abrasive agent in it so that it can rub off the dead skin cells. This can be done with products such as Phytomer’s  purifying gommage or natural products like salt.

Now I’m going to tell you, only exfoliate ONE to TWO times a week. You do NOT want to exfoliate any more than that, although it is fun. Why you may ask? You do not want to over exfoliate as it can strip your skin of its natural oils, drying out the skin. This can either cause drying or over production of natural oils to over compensate.

So one to two times a week, try to exfoliate your skin. Let me know how much you love it!
